Removing
moss from a roof can be complicated and
requires taking precautions. Moss grows
on moist, shaded surfaces and in the
Pacific Northwest moss is common on
rooftops. Moss' shallow roots
system penetrates shingles and promotes
rotting.
Homemasters of Oregon begins by
removing the moss from your roof by
cleaning debris off the roof and from
the gutters. This not only clears the
work area but also removes a potential
source of contamination.
We clean
the roof with a non-toxic,
environmentally safe detergent and warm
water. This softens up the
moss and kills some of the clusters.
We then scrub down the roof with hard
bristle brushes. This will rip the moss
out by the roots. We always brush
top-down, not up, to avoid damaging the
roofing materials.
If your
roof moss has been
long-established we use stronger
moss removal methods and the
mildest moss killer on the market before
resorting to more extreme measures.
We
inspect the roof after it dries to be
sure all the moss has been removed. We
will target hard to reach areas with a
spray bottle to spray directly with
moss killer. While detailing the
roof for moss we inspect the condition
of your roof. If we find underlying
